Not Your Average Spring Break
What did you do during your Spring Break? Students from Miami University at the Oxford Campus in Ohio spent their spring break giving back to Tampa’s community. Members of The Navigators service group visited Alpha House of Tampa March 5, 2012 for an entire day of raking leaves. They all joked that Tampa feels like Spring Break no matter what they were doing because they just left the snow in Ohio. Their mission is to provide their hard-working hands, sweat, and support to help make a difference in local communities.
How do you feel about raking the leaves outside of your house? Depending on the size of your yard, you might not mind the work or you might dread it. These students had no hesitation taking on the task of raking the entire Alpha House of Tampa campus, including three houses, the maternity residence, and the administration and transitional building. By lunch time 48 bags of leaves were packed full sitting on the curb. Between the staff, facilities manager, and volunteers we estimated only a portion of the property would be raked by the end of the work day and another volunteer group would have to complete the job but by 3:00 pm all the leaves in our village were piled into 90 large black trash bags! Thank you Navigators!
